ACTIVITIES to celebrate this Year of the Parish as Communion of Communities are proliferating nationwide, with most Dioceses preparing year-round events, some of which have already been completed.

In the Diocese of Baguio, after the launching of the year of the parish, several parishes had their pastoral assemblies to plan and disseminate information through seminars and meetings.

“One significant event that happened was the BEC re-tooling seminar given to the clergy and lay leaders, it was conducted by the team ‘Buka lng Tipan’ on February 21-26, 2017,” Leticia Bueno, a staff from the Diocese of Baguio said.

“The seminar helped the Diocese to revisit their vision and mission, relative to the present situation and needs; it also offered some tools for sustaining BECs-NL,” she added.

In the Diocese of Pagadian, leaders held their training called a GSK Leader’s Training and gave focus to this year’s theme.

“That training is our preparation to take action for another year of a pastoral call in Year 2017: “The Parish as a Communion of Communities,” Mr. Urso Aya-ay, one of the Lay leaders, wrote in a social media post.

Last year our activity had the theme “The Eucharist and the Family,” and in both assemblies we tackled the 5 characteristic of a renewed Church,” he said.

Actively take part

The Executive Secretary of the Committee on Basic Ecclesial Communities of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines, Fr. Amado Picardal, has encouraged the whole Catholic Community to take part in such events.

“If there is an active BEC in the area, actively take part and volunteer because in every parish we would want to have a parish formation team,” Picardal said.

“We aim to have evangelizers, organizers who undergo training, who can become the missionaries of their area; this aims to have a sharing of time ability and riches,” he added. (Christine Paguirigan/CBCPNews)
