Humility, Responsibility, and Unity, these are the things that have been emphasized during the “BEC Big Day” of the Diocese of Antipolo on November 4, 2017, held at the Cainta Catholic College Auditorium.

With the theme, “Tayo, tungo sa pagpapalakas at pagpapahalaga sa Maliit na Sambayanang Kristiyano,” this event is dubbed as the highlight of the Year of the Parish, which ends on November 29.

Humility. During the Eucharistic Celebration led by Antipolo Bishop Francis de Leon, everyone is reminded to remain humble just like Jesus Christ himself. According to the bishop, humility is one characteristic that we, as a Christian Community must embody.

Thus, he also pointed out that it must be clear to us about to whom shall we focus our love. Bishop de Leon says, “Ang pagmamahal natin ay hindi dapat pangsarili. Dapat ang pagmamahal natin ay sa Diyos (Our love must not be self-centered, God must be the focus of our love).”

Responsibility. As the main speaker, Rev. Fr. Benjie Ledesma of the Ministry on BEC Formation and Promotion of the Archdiocese of Manila says, “You have a mission to fulfill. Everyone has a mission, a responsibility. Even the poor have a responsibility.”

This responsibility is pertaining to the call for each of us to spread the Word of God. Fr. Ledesma even said, “Tayo’y maging agresibo sa pagpapalaganap ng Mabuting Balita (We must be aggressive in spreading the Good News).”

In his presentation, he also talked about the need to practice humility and to show everyone that the Church is open for all.

Unity. Like in any other advocacy or undertaking, it is imperative for everyone to learn the great value of unity as a key in achieving a common goal. So for us to fulfill our responsibility in the proliferation of the Good News, we must come together, as one. As Bishop de Leon says, “Kung iisa lang ang kahoy, maliit lang ang apoy. Ngunit kung maraming kahoy, malaki ang magagawang apoy (If we only have one firewood, we would only have a small fire. But with a lot of firewood, we could surely make a good fire).”

Meanwhile, the BEC Diocesan Secretariat and BEC Vicariate Coordinators have taken their oath while other community leaders have renewed their commitment. (Greg Gregorio | Antipolo SoCom)
