Thousands of Catholics gathered for the SAKOP Walk: “Sararong Paglakaw para sa SAradit na KOmunidad nin Pagtubod,” spearheaded by the Diocese of Legazpi, Commission on Family and Life.
This is in line with the Philippine Church celebration: “Year of the Parish as Communion of Communities” and 9 year novena towards the 500 years of Catholicism on the Philippines.
A sea of people in white shirts and emblem with Sakop Walk logo filled the streets. Among other attendees were priests, and religious men and women, gov’t officials, business and commercial establishments and many other organizations.
Organizers claimed more than 5,000 people attended the Sakop Walk from different parishes in Legazpi City alone.
In his message, Bishop Baylon said ‘it is encouraging that many people are taking a stand to strengthen important pastoral programs of the diocese especially projects of the Commission on Ecclesial Concerns, Commission on Family and Life, Emergency and recovery operations for families who were victims of Typhoon Nina and for HARONG PAGLAOM – the homegrown community based-rehabilitation program for substance users.’
The Eucharistic Celebration celebrated by Bishop Baylon was held at the St. Gregory the Great Cathedral. The event was culminated with a Grand Zumba Dance at the Legazpi City Boulevard Open Park , Brgy. Dapdap, Legazpi City.
Meanwhile, other parishes like St. John the Baptist in Tabaco City, St. Dominic of Guzman in Sto. Domingo, St. John the Baptist in Camalig, St. Stephen in Ligao City and Sts. Peter and Paul in Polangui, simultaneously participated in the Sakop Walk in their respective areas. (DZGBNewsOnline/CBCP News)
